MeRT®
What is MeRT®?
Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy (MeRT) combines rapid quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) assessments to analyze brain network function then guide individualized Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) protocols.
The Default Mode Network (DMN) has been implicated as playing a key role in many neurological disorders and diseases. By recording a 10-minute eyes-closed qEEG, Wave Neuroscience can assess the efficiency of this critical brain network and, if necessary, generate a personalized treatment protocol meant to improve and strengthen this network through neuromodulation. Every person has a unique frequency at which their brain functions most efficiently, this is known as Individual Alpha Frequency (IAF). Wave Neuro's proprietary EEG-Guided rTMS (MeRT) leverages precise and personalized protocol aimed at each individual’s IAF, resulting in mental health treatments that are up to 2x more effective than standard, non-specific TMS treatments.
A typical treatment protocol consists of 30-minute sessions five times per week for 4-8 weeks, based on the physician's recommendation. Treatment is non-invasive and painless. Also, the negative side effects from MeRT treatment have been reported as minimal. MeRT has been used, off-label, to improve symptoms of depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, Post Concussive Syndrome, PTSD & Autism.
How is MeRT different than traditional TMS?
At Braincare Performance, we’re not here to guess. We’re here to measure, map, and optimize.
MeRT offers a level of precision, adaptability, and range that traditional TMS simply doesn’t match. By using your brain’s own data to inform treatment, we can help you achieve real, lasting change — whether you’re recovering from a challenge or leveling up your performance.
MeRT (Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy) builds upon the foundation of TMS — but with key advancements that set it apart.

What conditions does MeRT treat?
MeRT can help with symptoms related to:
- Sleeping disorder
- Post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD)
- Emotional trauma
- Head trauma, such as a concussion
- Acute or chronic stress
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Stroke
- Parkinson’s disease
- Dementia
- Autism
- Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
MeRT can also improve confidence, self-esteem, and many other aspects of your life.
What is the MeRT process like?
The MeRT process at Braincare Performance Center - Cardiff includes:
1. qEEG Brainwave Recording
A certified Neuro Technician performs a quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) and an electrocardiogram (EKG). The qEEG measures brain electrical activity and maps the areas that aren’t working as they should. The EKG records your heart’s electrical signals and measures brain-heart coordination. The EEG Brainwave Recording is a relaxing, painless experience.
2. Initial Clinical Evaluation
The Initial Clinical Evaluation appointment for MeRT Treatment is about 45 minutes long. During this time, you will meet with Nurse Practitioner Kayleigh Prowse for your clinical evaluation. She will answer any questions you may have and discuss your applicable treatment plan. Please note that Dr. Julie Kim, our Medical Director, oversees all treatment for each patient.
3. Treatment
MeRT treatment is 4 - 8 weeks, depending on the patient's needs. Appointments are daily, Monday-Friday, for 35 -40 minutes each. After each two-week treatment phase, we do a follow-up qEEG and evaluate how your brain is responding to treatment.
