Depression
Depression isn't just a state of mind—it's a reflection of unhealthy brainwave activity.
Our research shows that many common symptoms of depression, from persistent sadness to a lack of energy, are linked to specific disruptions in the brain's electrical signals. Using advanced qEEG technology, we can create a detailed map of your unique brain activity to identify these imbalances. This allows us to move beyond simply addressing symptoms and focus on targeting the underlying brain patterns that may be contributing to your depression.
Types of Depression we treat.
At Braincare Performance Center – Cardiff, we use Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy (MeRT)—a highly personalized form of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)—to gently stimulate and rebalance disrupted areas of the brain.
Our personalized MeRT therapy can help with many forms of depression, including:
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
Persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or fatigue lasting more than two weeks, often with changes in sleep, appetite, and motivation.
Postpartum Depression
Severe depressive symptoms during or after pregnancy that interfere with daily functioning and the ability to care for your child.
Treatment-Resistant Depression
Depression that hasn’t responded to antidepressants or therapy. MeRT offers a new option for those seeking relief when nothing else has worked.
Depression with PTSD or Anxiety
Many individuals experience depression along with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). MeRT can address overlapping symptoms by improving brainwave balance.
Visualizing improvement in brainwave activity commonly seen in patients with Depression.
The chart above shows the improvement in brainwave activity as seen from the qEEG brainwave recording throughout the course of treatment.
The thick line on the chart indicates brainwave activity. In the first qEEG chart on the right you'll notice an excess amount of slow wave activity conflicting with the expected alpha rhythms (8-13 Hz). Throughout the course of treatment activity moved from the slow wave speeds to becoming more active and synchronized in the Alpha band- which is where we like to see our patients.
